Pink Flamingo Arts & Crafts put a call out for knit and crochet items to be part of the fairy tree, and I thought it would be fun to make some toadstools. I had trouble finding an existing free pattern, though, that was the size and look I wanted. And thus, here is what I came up with.<br /><br />This pattern is worked on double pointed needles. I like knitting the stem flat and the cap in the round. I find it easier to work with the smaller number of stem stitches, and it also is helpful for stuffing from the bottom at the end. Alternatively, if you work the stem in the round, you could add stuffing from the top as you go.<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1ysCikWFm108Ot-u78OZxHojTDvKVhGxk6f9NTm3MU98BQeOK2T2UfqtKmqBEJ5MzFj9TasxfCfxPFi4yTMFE_CTr2gZzRH2cxKX652rOKnSG1auIqRYSI6NpCS50dEReSdRrRmHT_ViZeArdNo3KDE0MqaqACk5-xaJ9Tr_cMxOFmmegPmQA_ryhjg/s4032/PXL_20230228_140107279.MP~2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1ysCikWFm108Ot-u78OZxHojTDvKVhGxk6f9NTm3MU98BQeOK2T2UfqtKmqBEJ5MzFj9TasxfCfxPFi4yTMFE_CTr2gZzRH2cxKX652rOKnSG1auIqRYSI6NpCS50dEReSdRrRmHT_ViZeArdNo3KDE0MqaqACk5-xaJ9Tr_cMxOFmmegPmQA_ryhjg/s16000/PXL_20230228_140107279.MP~2.jpg" /></a></div><p></p>This is a great one of using up scrap yarn, both for the knitted portion and for stuffing!<div><br /><p><b><u>Materials:</u></b><br />Four US 3 double pointed needles<br />DK or sport-weight yarn in preferred colors (e.g. red and white)<br />Tapestry needle<br />Fiberfill and/or scrap yarn for stuffing<br /></p><div><br /></div><b><u>Instructions:</u></b><br />Begin with two of the double pointed needles, working the piece flat.<br /><br />CO 3 stitches in White.<br /><br />Row 1 (RS): kfb all (6 sts)<br />Row 2 (WS): purl all<br />Row 3: kfb all (12 sts)<br />Row 4: purl all<div><br />Row 5: knit all<br />Row 6: purl all<br /><br />Repeat rows 5 & 6 one more time.<br /><br />Transition to working in the round by distributing stitches onto three double pointed needles (4 sts per needle). The right side of the work should face out.<br /><br />Switch to Red. Knit all in red unless a stitch is indicated otherwise (creates spots on the toadstool).<br /><br />Round 1: kfb all (24 sts)<br />Round 2: kfb all (48 sts)<br />Round 3: knit all<br />Round 4: *k2, k2tog, k1 in white, k1, k2tog, repeat from * to the end, six times.<br />Round 5: knit all<br />Round 6: *k1 in white, k2tog, k2, k2tog in white, k3, k2tog, repeat from * to the end, three times.<br />Round 7: knit all<br />Round 8: *k2, k2tog, k2, k1 in white, k2tog, repeat from * to the end, three times.<br />Round 9: *k2tog, k2, repeat from * to the last stitch, k1.<br />Round 10: k1 in white, k1, k2tog, k2, k1 in white, k2tog, k2, k2tog in white, k2, k2tog in white.<br />Round 11: *k2tog, k2, repeat from * to the end, three times.<br /><br />Break white and sew in end. Break red, leaving a ~4 inch tail. With a tapestry needle, draw the yarn end through the remaining stitches and pull tight to close the top of the cap. Sew closed.<br /><br />To finish, stuff the cap from the bottom with fiberfill and/or scrap yarn. Sew the stem closed, adding some stuffing to it as you go. All ends can be drawn through the toadstool to hide them. As a finishing touch, I like to weave several inches of the stem-colored yarn around the based of the cap. Then I pull it tight (without breaking the yarn), tie it, and hide the ends. This band at the base helps add more definition between the stem and cap.</div><div><br /></div></div>Sarah Gettelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06928137207951486930noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2223570616784624232.post-46164617908675957232023-03-17T07:30:00.006-05:002023-03-17T07:30:00.157-05:00Pattern: Lucky Stripes Top<p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBy3ZNJo3evX1WbaSl6yBAGj29cPsIYFBPEXhqlnGKRvAmKmoHCgnJUS4FWWNOBZhCpFyYnMoLq8O2mSTSa70eKHvpljM19Mz_odC3EfFnY0nmQCealKxDZElwO_FBHO3C-gsKhurgLae9XXo9KGsJVTQTKHmm_rjbDtxUNYWGw20XjiK52LSeQ0-PUg/s2734/IMG_6357.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2734" data-original-width="2734" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBy3ZNJo3evX1WbaSl6yBAGj29cPsIYFBPEXhqlnGKRvAmKmoHCgnJUS4FWWNOBZhCpFyYnMoLq8O2mSTSa70eKHvpljM19Mz_odC3EfFnY0nmQCealKxDZElwO_FBHO3C-gsKhurgLae9XXo9KGsJVTQTKHmm_rjbDtxUNYWGw20XjiK52LSeQ0-PUg/s16000/IMG_6357.JPG" /></a></div><p>Sweater tanks are <i>IN</i>, and I know this Lucky Stripes Top is going to get a lot of wear this spring and fall, especially. Cute little chap. I fashioned the nose in a rounder style like the one in Raymond Brigg's The Snowman, which I really enjoyed as a kid. From time to time, the feeling starts tapping my shoulders, pulling at my earlobes. I feel like I'm supposed to be <i>doing</i> something, and I feel out of touch with myself. It is persistent.</div><div><br /></div><div>What I've learned from restlessness is that it is generally telling me I'm hungry for something, whether that be for connection or clarity or for a creative outlet or whatever else. Where would it be most meaningful and impactful to pour my energy?</li><li>What can I feasibly hold? What does versatility look like paired with balance?</li><li>Where do I want to be in one, five, ten, twenty years? Who do I want to be? How do I want to live? What do I want life to be like, and how do I get there?</li></ul><div><br /></div></div><div><b>Knitting</b>: I find repetitive activities incredibly soothing, especially with chaotic thinking and overwhelm. Having soft yarn in my hands makes my senses purr. I've started to knit for a few minutes at the end of lunch breaks and most evenings. Sometimes I can also knit while I'm on the phone, and certainly as I'm winding down in the evening. Planning projects for the #2023creativechallenge has also lit up my creativity and given me so much to look forward to as I work on projects over the coming months. It feels really good to channel into projects when I'm restless. </div><div><br /></div><div><b>Making lists</b>: I'm a list maker by nature, and they feel especially good when my thoughts are flitting in all directions, looking for a foothold. Here are some lists I've been making or building on:</div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Project ideas (crafts, home projects, writing, organizing, etc)</li><li>Things I want to do, this year or in general</li><li>My commitments, identifying what I want to do more or less of</li><li>Habits I want to incorporate into more of my days</li><li>Persistent concerns or fears I'm experiencing and why</li><li>Work tasks to remember, sorted by type and priority</li><li>Things I'm looking forward to</li><li>Half-formed ideas to keep track of</li><li>A packing list for an upcoming trip</li></ul><div><br /></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7o7-sLmMFkFKB9wzziC8Offh1EMZ7F2GPXz0fXW-GKrgobxr1QCTzmUuLgtyNvIsnJ1gOEYV4ZZicnncZtihaHJXwnrzx1h_6YyWyJ2mgOsCrWuYvXn27z-ytJZVN3v-_I9hvVsZuPod5lGRbVP36NHjrZZdCDZVr1ALVVVyYszy_7zRRkTAF1sosCQ/s4032/IMG_5918.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7o7-sLmMFkFKB9wzziC8Offh1EMZ7F2GPXz0fXW-GKrgobxr1QCTzmUuLgtyNvIsnJ1gOEYV4ZZicnncZtihaHJXwnrzx1h_6YyWyJ2mgOsCrWuYvXn27z-ytJZVN3v-_I9hvVsZuPod5lGRbVP36NHjrZZdCDZVr1ALVVVyYszy_7zRRkTAF1sosCQ/s16000/IMG_5918.JPG" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div><b>Changing up routines</b>: I love weight training, but lately I struggle to get myself to the gym first thing in the dark mornings. Rather than force myself (or not go at all), I've embraced moving my workouts to later in the day when it's lighter out and I feel like I've accomplished some other things already. I know I'll eventually switch back to my AM workouts, but for now this is 🤌🏻</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Therapy</b>: I am constantly growing thanks to the support I experience in therapy. Not only can I voice restless feelings, my therapist also helps me pull apart what is underlying those feelings and process it. There are often a lot of things simultaneously contributing to why I'm feeling restless (e.g. choices I need to make; wanting, experiencing, or anticipating life changes; relationship dynamics; desiring creative outlets or a sense of purpose). It's really helpful to have support in identifying what's going on and why.</div></div><div><br /></div><div><b>Understand what I need, and make a plan</b>: The various outlets I have for pulling up what is contributing to my restlessness and processing it also help my to better understand what I am needing or longing for. I find it helpful to identify what some of these top things are and make an actionable plan. For example, I may notice that I feel lonely or disconnected from people. Examples of an actionable plan (pick 1-2)</div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Spontaneously call a loved one just to say 'hi'</li><li>Reach out to a friend or family member to make plans</li><li>Tell three people who are important to you what you appreciate about them, just because</li><li>Check out local Meetup groups - sign up and attend one that sparks your interest</li><li>Research local volunteer opportunities and sign up (searching 'volunteer [insert your city/town]' is a great place to start)</li></ul><div><br /></div></div><div>So here we are, leaning into restlessness. Keep creating, keep channeling. It is all beautiful fuel.</div><div><br /></div>Sarah Gettelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06928137207951486930noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2223570616784624232.post-78686252397137190702023-01-17T16:42:00.004-06:002023-01-17T16:45:13.037-06:00Project Notes: Azure Modification for "Blue Tit" Knitted Bird by Lesley Stanfield<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjk7UgpAArLwPPRHLiGFYzhTzvguRkA5IuQQnQpJ53y7D_SULE9E5NpYVJyYJbYAoZId8DTxymYggnikhnDLl6sfMlaA9y9HmYFPkZuwl-FKKhsq0Fd2oDZeLBRzdGNLoHhBepzFh_AMQa3vbl1oiKTV7_v69rBOi4Gp_OosgRjDNE_Y2uMzlZyPskL_Q/s3475/1a.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3475" data-original-width="3019" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjk7UgpAArLwPPRHLiGFYzhTzvguRkA5IuQQnQpJ53y7D_SULE9E5NpYVJyYJbYAoZId8DTxymYggnikhnDLl6sfMlaA9y9HmYFPkZuwl-FKKhsq0Fd2oDZeLBRzdGNLoHhBepzFh_AMQa3vbl1oiKTV7_v69rBOi4Gp_OosgRjDNE_Y2uMzlZyPskL_Q/s16000/1a.png" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">The first theme in the <a href="https://www.thefuzzysquare.com/2023/01/creative-challenge-2023.html" target="_blank"><b>2023 Creative Challenge</b></a> (and the theme the sparked the whole idea of the challenge with <a href="https://www.savisquirrelnest.com/" target="_blank"><b>The Savi Squirrel Nest</b></a>) is "Birds." There are some incredible and also remarkably cute knitted bird patterns. I decided to make Lesley Stanfield's <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/blue-tit" target="_blank"><b>"Blue Tit" pattern</b></a>, with color modifications closer to an azure tit bird, which looks wonderfully wintery.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">When I read through notes from other knitters on<b> <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/blue-tit/people" target="_blank">Ravelry</a></b>, there was a common word used to describe this project... <i>fussy.</i> From trying to decipher which way the head faces, to navigating the interesting one-piece structure, to juggling between straight and double pointed needles, it's understandable why. But like others shared, it is a brilliant pattern design and a lot of fun to see the bird come to life.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />I want to share a few notes I wish I'd had when first making this, in hope that it will be helpful to other knitters embarking on this pattern for the first time. I've also included some notes on the color modifications I made in homage to azure tit birds.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJstV-3AEgRNl4kz-PK1a5UX-KbL7cwn8Q5OE8pbhfE1T4TvN0O4U-J8lcWWOv73q7TyAi-XbDYC-zC6Ffolx32LsEqi_hYWhybOfQ5K9Zaj7YDcqkoacR-903u3tTGtw_YHBzlodnC9quU2PJbaYIgGNzyaWKf0oJlIYdMWwk1WAu-_B30iuZPEklbg/s4032/story.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJstV-3AEgRNl4kz-PK1a5UX-KbL7cwn8Q5OE8pbhfE1T4TvN0O4U-J8lcWWOv73q7TyAi-XbDYC-zC6Ffolx32LsEqi_hYWhybOfQ5K9Zaj7YDcqkoacR-903u3tTGtw_YHBzlodnC9quU2PJbaYIgGNzyaWKf0oJlIYdMWwk1WAu-_B30iuZPEklbg/s16000/story.JPG" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>The notes I wish I'd had:</b></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b><br /></b>For the head section, where it says "3rd row Slip first 2 sts of row on to spare yarn," I used a cable needle to slip off the stitches until they're picked up again. Oh well, still cute!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />Also in the head section, where it says "4th row K9A, (k1, m1, k3, m1, k1)<b>B</b>, k9A. 25 sts," the color B should be <b>C</b>.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxfxOi7tpC6K-4xIbhN-AMVvCT2WBLQ91T7gAIh-p8GzQnj5TP7c6LDXOhvCCcETOigD3BSFXJj9W2a1TnPUF6fcIP23pk_fn7ITlgVnKBRS-IK82CQK0zOKZU-zeyJ3_YSHmczk7sD2zCIY5i1Q3LhPQUnqfVzRDA7mj0LGIVj9L55eX4dCOvsR-HTg/s4032/IMG_5831.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxfxOi7tpC6K-4xIbhN-AMVvCT2WBLQ91T7gAIh-p8GzQnj5TP7c6LDXOhvCCcETOigD3BSFXJj9W2a1TnPUF6fcIP23pk_fn7ITlgVnKBRS-IK82CQK0zOKZU-zeyJ3_YSHmczk7sD2zCIY5i1Q3LhPQUnqfVzRDA7mj0LGIVj9L55eX4dCOvsR-HTg/s16000/IMG_5831.JPG" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>My color scheme for the azure tit:<br /></b>A - white<br />B - white (cap) or dark blue<br />C - black<br />D - light purple, then switch to darker (back)<br />E - white (stomach)</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />I switched back to straight needles after using double pointed for the head. The challenge is to make something (anything!) every two weeks based on the set themes. It can be any medium, from painting to sewing to woodcraft to crochet... you name it. This is a great way to spark inspiration, think outside the box, keep up crafting momentum, and be part of a community challenge. To keep us connected, we're committing to also posting what we make to social media by the end of each two-week period.<br /><br /><b>Want to join in?</b> Check out the themes below, and be sure to share what you create using hashtag <b><a href="https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/2023creativechallenge/">#2023creativechallenge</a> </b>!<br /><br />I put together this simple <b><a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1RexajWjOAEiByS3e791SErJNVSBNwqMo/view?usp=sharing" target="_blank">#2023creativechallenge worksheet</a></b> to help me keep track of my ideas and plans, especially to work ahead on some bigger projects (can't wait to share 😉). <br />
When you finish the knitted sections of <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/alan-dart">Alan Dart</a>'s ingenious <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/dickensian-mice-outdoor">Dickensian Outdoor Mice</a>, you have a menagerie of small, unrecognizable pieces -- the flat strips for hands and feet, coat cuffs, scarf and bonnet string, ears, bonnet brim, and so on -- all with long yarn tails, ready for seaming. I was definitely groaning inwardly throughout much of the seaming for these mice, which took as much time if not more as the knitting did -- but I think the undeniable charm of these mice is that as you put them together, it feels like you're bringing them to life. I've made toys before, like a <a href="http://www.thefuzzysquare.com/2012/04/fairy-2.html">fairy</a> or <a href="http://www.thefuzzysquare.com/2014/02/fifi-muffy-pomp-poodle-knitted-poodle.html">poodle</a>, but Dart's mice are so thoughtfully detailed (a quality throughout Dart's patterns) that they felt particularly special.<br />
<br />I kept giggling when I finished. The mice were so delightfully characterized, and I loved holding them. They can stand on their own if convinced. The lady mouse has a plastic circle cut out from a container at the bottom of her skirt for additional balance. Some other knitters forewent feet for the lady mouse so that she was even more stable, but I thought this looked a bit odd next to her counterpart.<br />
<br />This is a great stash buster project, and I was happy to also tap into my embroidery thread stash as well. The colors were also particularly fun to choose, and I could imagine playing with all kinds of combinations. <div><br /></div><div>These were a gift for my Grandma, and she was absolutely delighted by them.</div>Sarah Gettelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06928137207951486930noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2223570616784624232.post-48678324199267681772015-08-12T18:13:00.004-05:002021-05-16T11:37:35.104-05:00Free Pattern: Storybook Animal Cozy<i>Dare</i>: <i><b>Make a can cozy inspired by a favorite childhood memory.</b></i><br />
<br />Growing up, some of my favorite memories are listening to my parents read to us before bed or during long car rides. They read dozens and dozens of books aloud, even when they were barely awake themselves. We would <i>plead </i>for another chapter to know what happened next.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I was always particularly drawn to animal characters. The wolf face is inspired by Kapu, the black wolf in Julie of the Wolves by Jean Craighead George, and White Fang by Jack London. The mouse is inspired by mouse detective Hermux Tantamaq in Time Stops for No Mouse by Michael Hoeye and its sequels, or Ragweed by Avi (but not it's sequel Poppy!!). The polar bear is inspired by Iorek Byrnison, the wise armored bear in the His Dark Materials trilogy (the first book, The Golden Compass, being the most well-known) by Philip Pullman. I imagined the boy's face to represent Pip from Charles Dickens' Great Expectations, but it could also be Huckleberry Finn or Sam in My Side of the Mountain.<br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
And finally,
the yellow background and speckled borders are inspired by the mythical Dust in the
His Dark Materials books.<o:p></o:p></div>

Maybe they will be inspiration for a larger project in the future. :)<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">All stitches are bound off for Purl Soho's <a href="http://www.purlbee.com/2011/11/23/whits-knits-hudsons-bay-inspired-crib-blanket/">Hudson Bay's Inspired Crib Blanket</a>, and wow, I really love this blanket. It is <i>so </i>comfortable — the drape and weight are perfect. And I used to not like knitting with cotton...a distant memory!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This blanket is 100% cotton. I had a large stash of the cream color and then used half of a 50g skein in each other color for the stripes. If you are very comfortable with garter stitch, it will be an easy pattern to keep your hands moving without much thought. I already miss having it in the basket next to my chair — the perfect grab-and-let-go project for those extra few minutes before heading out, or when watching a show or listening to a book or podcast.</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Also, remember when I started this? ...You don't because it was <i>last April</i>, nine months ago. At the time, I was still in school, still living in the state I grew up in, still working and worrying over my honors thesis — little idea of what I would be doing after graduation (or even what my <a href="http://www.thefuzzysquare.com/2014/07/log-cabin-knitted-graduation-cap.html">graduation cap</a> would look like) and where I would be in a year, <i>who </i>I would be.</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div><div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I'm proud to look back on all I have challenge myself to do and all the ways I've grown. Between casting on and casting off this project, I:</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Finished and defended by book-length <a href="https://lux.lawrence.edu/luhp/59/" target="_blank">honors thesis</a></li><li>Ended a long-term relationship</li><li>Graduated from college</li><li>Drove 2,000 miles on a solo trip through Canada</li><li>Traveled 800 miles from home in Wisconsin to a fellowship placement at <a href="https://polarisproject.org/" target="_blank">Polaris</a>, an <a href="https://polarisproject.org/human-trafficking/" target="_blank">anti human trafficking</a> organization, and met amazing people</li><li>Lost my grandpa</li><li>Flew in an airplane for the first time in years, since I first experienced motion sickness</li><li>Accepted my first full-time job as a grant writer at an animal rescue</li></ul></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmaAOqoMg7jV8B3-XwAtS0qERo0LchNT30dcjzqRqn5r2yyKPjNKkoRCNWtLlSc-XkUbnZ66GxpEpYEEgFtotUPDnBSbhUwNF4mlI8WLRuqWquaKNq29EGzU_OPkzCr6bSGcEFvFdXX6rc/s1600/IMG_8661.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmaAOqoMg7jV8B3-XwAtS0qERo0LchNT30dcjzqRqn5r2yyKPjNKkoRCNWtLlSc-XkUbnZ66GxpEpYEEgFtotUPDnBSbhUwNF4mlI8WLRuqWquaKNq29EGzU_OPkzCr6bSGcEFvFdXX6rc/s1600/IMG_8661.png" width="426" /></a></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><div style="clear: both;">When I bound off the last stitches of this blanket, I was sitting in the passenger seat of a Penske moving truck next to my dad, listening to Pink Floyd while we crossed the Appalachians. Behind us were hours of packed boxes and padded furniture, in front was Washington, DC, where I was returning for my first job and apartment. My stomach tensed and relaxed like a loose fist, like it did when I first came to Washington four months ago, except this time it wasn't excitement or fear or stress — just exhilaration.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOfiukyfZ6MD0qcQGEFkzijF_fRsp50_qxohRlehe-5ECXN2e24VpHS-NBzISg4q2rTekNL2CvuXlk7IVxfWP1q0Bjd22Lkan9V9VNIj7SFkj_6DGTeXmVjRPOu6Q5eFoixmTZJ1LRGFli/s1600/IMG_8649.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOfiukyfZ6MD0qcQGEFkzijF_fRsp50_qxohRlehe-5ECXN2e24VpHS-NBzISg4q2rTekNL2CvuXlk7IVxfWP1q0Bjd22Lkan9V9VNIj7SFkj_6DGTeXmVjRPOu6Q5eFoixmTZJ1LRGFli/s1600/IMG_8649.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've written before that one of my favorite parts of knitting is giving the finished piece away. Another part that I love is how the knitting process connects to aspects of life — the major events, the book I'm listening to, the people I sit with, the way I'm feeling and thoughts I'm grappling with — and it creates continuity between them. Like a bound book, each row is like a page, back and forth, front to back, end to end.</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There's nothing like garter stitch to take you back and bring you forward. It is the first thing you learn and makes all of the harder stitches possible.</div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>You may be wondering when I'm going to run out of t-shirts, and thus t-shirt yarn, since these crochet t-shirt bags/baskets keep showing up on the blog... This will likely be the last for a while, but they're obviously fun to make! They also give me the illusion that I am a crocheter in addition to a knitter (haaah).<br />
<br />This time around, I had to pull apart and restart since it started taking on a lumpy form (cute). I must have been doing some weird increases and decreases along the way. Good thing I've gotten good at accepting mistake mutants and <i>de</i>construction as part of the craft process from time-to-time (here's lookin' at you, <a href="http://www.thefuzzysquare.com/2010/12/jumper.html">Sally Melville jumper</a>...) , and with a much-needed second chance, it came out nicely!<div><br /></div><div><span style="font-size: large;"><b>Want to make your own T-Shirt Yarn?</b> Here is a great <a href="https://www.fiberartsy.com/how-to-make-tshirt-yarn/" target="_blank">tutorial from FiberArtsy</a>.<br /></span>
<br />In other news, the <a href="http://www.thefuzzysquare.com/2014/04/in-progress-hudson-bay-blanket-by-purl.html">Purl Soho blanket</a> is still in progress. I had some time to work on it last night, and I think the final end stripes are in sight..!</div>Sarah Gettelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06928137207951486930noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2223570616784624232.post-91631477272020886302014-12-16T13:08:00.004-06:002021-05-16T16:09:10.376-05:00Bundle Up with The Fuzzy Square<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Isn't this the best time of year for fiber crafters? The weather is just right for curling up with a project, and all those scarf, mitten, hat, and slipper patterns sound <i>so </i>appealing.<br />
<br />
I just finished a winter project that I've been working on for months. I started it during the summer and was dragging along, but as soon as cold weather set in, it called me back.<br />
<br />
It's been great to see so many Fuzzy Square patterns being used this season through <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/sarah-gettel">Ravelry</a>! Even when I'm not writing many new posts, it's wonderful that the patterns continue to be used.<br />
<br />
That said, I do hope to write some more posts before the year is out! Stay tuned. :)Sarah Gettelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06928137207951486930noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2223570616784624232.post-62698287528169883452014-10-05T07:38:00.005-05:002021-05-16T11:39:46.345-05:00Knitting with Gratitude<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I love to practice and express gratitude through knitting. Every single part of the yarn in a finished piece has met my fingers and has been formed into something. Isn't that amazing? Knitting is such a <i>personal </i>process, and what better intention to set than gratitude?<br />
<br />I made this scarf as a gift for one of my college professors who had an enormous impact on me as a teacher, mentor, and friend. When I first joined one of her classes as a freshman, I struggled with shyness and social anxiety to the point where I barely ever spoke in class. My professor was encouraging in a way that helped me to grow as a writer and also grapple with speaking at my own pace. She also was the first teacher in my life to intentionally center the experiences, history, and literature of Black people in her courses. This deepened my understanding of racial history and identity in the U.S. in ways I'd been separated from and ignorant of while growing up. It helped me to understand that racism continues to be a root cause of suffering today.<div><br /></div><div>In addition to all of this, my professor also advised my progress on my <a href="https://lux.lawrence.edu/luhp/59/" target="_blank">honors thesis</a>, which included works by Lucy Larcom, Frances Harper, and Sarah Piatt. My favorite of Lucy Larcom's poems is quoted above, depicting Mehetabel staring into a fire with her knitting in hand. To me, the poem is a wonderfully complicated mix of nostalgia and longing, both haunted and dreamy. I especially love the richness of the final stanzas. </div><div><br /></div><div>This scarf is a reflection of all of this.</div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><i>I am thankful for teachers.</i></div><div style="text-align: center;"><i><br /></i></div><div style="text-align: center;"><i>I am thankful for words and literature and artists and their ability to touch and transform us.</i></div><div style="text-align: center;"><i><br /></i></div><div style="text-align: center;"><i>I am thankful for the ability of my hands to create.</i></div><div style="text-align: center;"><i><br /></i></div><div style="text-align: center;"><i>I am thankful that the possibilities for learning and growth are limitless.</i></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div>

<i><br /></i>
A few weeks ago, I moved from Wisconsin to Washington, DC. It has been an exciting time seeing the sites, meeting wonderful people, and working as a fellow at <a href="https://polarisproject.org/" target="_blank">Polaris</a>. I am not sure whether this move is for the long term (at least until December), but so far, I'm really enjoying it here.<br />
<br />One of my favorite places to go here is the Dupont Circle farmer's market on Sunday mornings (today! I'm going!). It is colorful, lively, fresh.<div><br /></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Thank you for all of the thoughtful emails and comments. My posts may be more sporadic at times with life changes, but I love keeping up with you all.<br />
<br />
My current projects are TOP SECRET holiday gifts ;) but here are some new gems from my stash I am crushing on (and that happen to match these beautiful farmer's market flowers..!).<div><div>

After a few years of keeping the website pages and blog separate, I've united them again into one cleaner, cohesive site. Hopefully, this will make navigation all the better. The sidebar has also been clipped to "essentials." Have thoughts about the revised look? I'd love to hear from you!<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The blog isn't the only thing at The Fuzzy Square undergoing some changes; several weeks ago, The Fuzzy Square's <a href="http://www.thefuzzysquare.com/2012/05/flower-handbags.html">Sunflower Cable Clutch</a>, also known at the <a href="http://www.thefuzzysquare.com/2013/04/springtime-clutches.html">Garden Party Clutch</a>, also had a makeover.</div><div><br /></div>

</div>
<br /><div>Most recently, I was commissioned to make a <a href="http://www.thefuzzysquare.com/2012/05/flower-handbags.html">Sunflower Cable Clutch</a>. This is a larger version of the original, and it was a lot of fun to adapt the pattern.</div><div><br /></div><div><span style="font-size: large;"><b>Want to make your own? </b>The pattern is available <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/spring-n-summer-sunflower-clutch">here</a>.</span></div>

<br />
A few weeks ago, I began reading <a href="http://www.amazon.com/The-Tao-Leadership-Ching-Adapted/dp/0893340790">The Tao of Leadership: Lao Tzu's Tao Te Ching Adapted for a New Age</a> by John Heider. I should say first that this is an excellent book that invites readers into new spaces of contemplation. Unfortunately, the version I purchased - I'm not sure if there are other versions - is littered with typos, which can take away from the experience, but if you can get around them, you're in for a treat. The book was recommended to me by a member of the talented group <a href="http://www.roomfulofteeth.org/">Roomful of Teeth</a>, which creates some fantastic and unique music. The book was doubly enticing to me as a religious studies major. Reading - no, more like <i>processing </i>- this book made me feel, among other things, more detached from my belongings. I wanted to be simpler, less cluttered.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Meanwhile, a friend of mine told me that he was preparing to purge his closet, narrow his wardrobe. When he did, he sounded quite pleased with the results. Mom also found a newspaper article about a woman who narrowed her closet to just a few items. The signs seemed to be pointing me in a similar direction.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
While I by no means emptied my closet or reduced my wardrobe to the bare minimum, I did clear out many large bags full of clothing. Some were items that no longer fit, were unflattering, or were worn past wearing. Others were items that I didn't wear that I had clung to for too long, telling myself that I would wear them eventually but never following through. And some pieces were simply not favorites and not necessary.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Among the items pulled from my drawers and closet were a number of knit t-shirts. Though I initially packed them away in bags with the other clothes, the crafter in me dug them out again and began cutting away to create one of my favorite materials: t-shirt yarn. I had a full bag of rolled t-shirt yarn by the time I was through, and I determined to make more <a href="http://www.thefuzzysquare.com/2012/07/crochet-fabric-bags.html">t-shirt yarn bags</a>, as I've <a href="http://www.thefuzzysquare.com/2012/02/crochet-tshirt-yarn-bag.html">done before</a>. Upon laying out my treasures to choose color schemes (I had enough to make two bags), I decided to make a rainbow bag and a softer toned bag (pink, white, cream, etc). The rainbow bag is pictured above. The second, softer-tone bag gave me some trouble and is slightly disproportionate at the bottom.. Ah, well, 4/5 well-shaped bags is decent. ;)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So, maybe I didn't completely get rid of as much clothing as I intended, since the t-shirts are now living new, reshaped lives (that seems a bit Taoist, even). But I'm glad I was able to part with some of my material attachments and find some space for creativity.</div>

<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIcNmJe52Jl6KmdYxmY6yyL9K1TwmbZgwvrAwBWQ460F06vXuLXl58ILg40LtOrCISof4bh-xoVm3jMfMvISvzQ6cFxMS0froJF9_kyJ4Vu6iUnfOGk4-gkPsLlRWtZG0HZI-E_gRWvyBz/s16000/IMG_5735.JPG" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Several things came together quite well in the week leading up to graduation day: the big <a href="http://www.herrschners.com/">Herrschners</a> sale, talk of graduation cap decorating, and a <a href="http://www.buddytv.com/slideshows/dancing-with-the-stars/meet-the-cast-of-dancing-with-the-stars-season-18-43610.aspx">Dancing with the Stars</a> marathon with friends. Together, they culminated in the top of my graduation cap, pictured above.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
A good friend (check her out at <a href="http://savisquirrel.wix.com/thesavisquirrelnest">The Savi Squirrel Nest</a>!) and I stormed the Herrschners craft sale in Steven's Point on our way back from visiting her home and family. We power-walked into the store, grabbed our shopping carts, and went to play. I had already decided to splurge on restocking my gradually depleted yarn stash (though, let's be real, a crafter's supply stash is ever-growing). We wove up and down the table aisles of yarn, and it was great to gush over the different fibers and colors together. Filling a large portion of my cart were skeins of Herrschners Homestyle yarn (75% acrylic, 25% washable wool), which I used for my cap. The yarn is a little stringy, so there were redo moments to make sure the strands went into the right place, but the yarn is also very silky and pleasant to work with in a great variety of colors.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I hadn't planned on decorating my graduation cap. It seemed unnecessary, and I wasn't feeling particularly inspired, but my friends brought it up fairly often around graduation. When it dawned on me that cap decoration could be an opportunity for creative self-expression (*ding*), I was on board.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
When I sketched out design ideas for the top of cap, I had several ideas for using text, such as including my name or majors or a brief quote, or other fair isle patterns. But then, the tricky thing about graduation caps is that they are worn in a diamond tilt rather than a square, which would angle any design I made in a square shape (which was pretty much all of them...).</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
After perusing designs used for dishcloths and afghan squares, I found my match.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR0VB4HRNfxz22d-jQGur6l5mDt7kZq4YrAETrBMJKmS4aiA-KwQA-TS-k-IauI_zX6lNzZ1UDhyMH9kcI5d1mfnpNpps9G6bdvku8eb4mOdeToOrQAhlNDCveFz26qgXK-IY6h0u1pMvD/s16000/IMG_5747.JPG" /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The log cabin design is nothing new in the crafting world, but it is certainly timeless and endlessly customizable. I followed the guidance of Staci Perry's (of <a href="http://www.verypink.com/">Very Pink</a>) <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/learn-to-knit-a-log-cabin-blanket">Learn to Knit a Log Cabin Blanket</a> instructions, which served as an excellent resource while I planned my color scheme and process of construction. Staci covers it all -- she even includes FAQ page and video links on the Ravelry pattern page for additional guidance. In the center square, I bound off and then cast on several stitches to make a opening for the tassel circle.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I worked away on the log cabin design while watching the last recordings of Dancing with the Stars, season 18 with friends. What a great season... I adored Charlie White -- what a lovely person, and I was very pleased with the winners. Uh, yeah, and if you haven't seen the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrFwokp3z48">gold medal-winning figure skating performance of Charlie White and Meryl Davis</a>, you should really do that now -- prepare to be blown away.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
At the bottom point of the cap, I knit a basic "2014" fair isle design. I was hasty to finish and did not spend a great amount of time lining everything up perfectly, but the patchwork look to the curved lines grew on me. I attached the design by crocheting a black border around the while square and then using a needle and doubled black thread to securely sew the design in place. I also sewed the design around the button opening in place.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Surprisingly, I haven't seen other knit or crochet graduation caps around the interwebs, though there are some fantastic other creative hat decorations. Although it's summer and many graduations are on the other side of the calendar in 2015, if yours is coming up, consider adorning your grad cap with some fiber art!</div>

<br />
It's been a busy few weeks! I graduated from college last weekend, and of course one of the major challenges of the surrounding days was saying a lot of thank yous and a lot of goodbyes (for now!). A group of people who were important to thank were staff members at a nonprofit organization that I worked with. The organization provides affordable housing to low-income families and individuals in the area. I became involved with the organization about three years ago as a weekly volunteer, and after a year, I was invited to work as a grant writer. I really owe my grown passion for mission-driven nonprofit work to my experiences at the organization.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
Amanda Ochocki (<a href="http://chalklegs.com/">Chalk Legs</a>)'s <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/nineteen-hundred-house-dishcloth">Nineteen Hundred House Dishcloth</a> stood out as a fitting gift for the housing organization staff members who were teachers and supporters for me over the years. This is a great simple, quick pattern. I used basic Lily Sugar n' Cream cotton yarn.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_tKqDWygrY7_6hD0fDOXSD6F63W_ruIuuS-v0aZzGLqi6JuH_wyVjhxrTkNIP1CH9rG_7tVwFr_JEUTwIZXZJCyga4Khkkr6rNwP3QFsBgXv1Mo4uHFIU4drzxaP9MBEJ-A4EMBJtbrWy/s1600/IMG_5285.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_tKqDWygrY7_6hD0fDOXSD6F63W_ruIuuS-v0aZzGLqi6JuH_wyVjhxrTkNIP1CH9rG_7tVwFr_JEUTwIZXZJCyga4Khkkr6rNwP3QFsBgXv1Mo4uHFIU4drzxaP9MBEJ-A4EMBJtbrWy/s16000/IMG_5285.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
In addition to making the washcloths, I came across a fantastic printout for a gift box: <a href="http://www.designmom.com/2012/12/a-perfect-gift-house-gift-box/">The Perfect Gift: House Gift Box</a> by <a href="http://www.designmom.com/">Design Mom</a>. The box template is free and easy to download and print onto cardstock paper. One cut, fold along the lines on the house and tape or glue flaps into place. (I didn't have my craft knife, so I didn't carve out the windows, though I love the look of them!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiHsjfgRY32nj9wpRwCJzclWugIDynn08UmCC36kBDL3-0uh2u_t2VuI2upeqV0FMhxhzkaG-M_vuPsVQeUmZ2k7OQO9762yLF5PaZ95tg67isLeusSyiN8z58sOyKbyhR8-OMbTGkdrXK/s1600/IMG_5329.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiHsjfgRY32nj9wpRwCJzclWugIDynn08UmCC36kBDL3-0uh2u_t2VuI2upeqV0FMhxhzkaG-M_vuPsVQeUmZ2k7OQO9762yLF5PaZ95tg67isLeusSyiN8z58sOyKbyhR8-OMbTGkdrXK/s16000/IMG_5329.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
I used a single hole punch on the top flaps of the roof in order to tie the boxes closed with extra yarn. I would recommend punching two holes and then tying a bow between them, as the bows did not look as sharp with my method, and the roofs wanted to open when the washcloths were packed away inside.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGVh61vO9cKdkV3BM55DgyqX8iNSeuDdAMWyo5M5BJvu0PceFZq3AkEXej9otmKJIIlc-vmRP6ApL4JgIcNRNMkaxEZONPrgFbwZSDtSTjv1kgVJS_LAB9c3OVQJxk6gUJWpcxijnhurRU/s1600/IMG_5452.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGVh61vO9cKdkV3BM55DgyqX8iNSeuDdAMWyo5M5BJvu0PceFZq3AkEXej9otmKJIIlc-vmRP6ApL4JgIcNRNMkaxEZONPrgFbwZSDtSTjv1kgVJS_LAB9c3OVQJxk6gUJWpcxijnhurRU/s16000/IMG_5452.JPG" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
To finish the houses, I wrote the staff member names on the boxes (not shown). They were happily received. :)<br />

<br />
This is pattern 22, Sun Dress by <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/designers/alice-halbeisen">Alice Halbeisen</a>. The yarn is <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library/filatura-lanarota-cool-cotton">Filatura Lanarota Cool Cotton</a> (dk weight, 52% cotton, 48% acrylic), color 29. The yarn was great to work with; sometimes when I order bulk I am a little hesitant about what I'm getting, but the quality is excellent.<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhApnWIsmTYoISGsG5yKfG0hcdq-iCzWE2xIo6zzc8jKANKllomzX5TlCAOwFTjHwxWTGVeOsUiwbakDy34EY6FcyxQzqWipaexazXJDgz2FNQHdq4IX61G_EB_oYD4o82g0kcMMoCfc4Cs/s1600/IMG_5498.JPG" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhApnWIsmTYoISGsG5yKfG0hcdq-iCzWE2xIo6zzc8jKANKllomzX5TlCAOwFTjHwxWTGVeOsUiwbakDy34EY6FcyxQzqWipaexazXJDgz2FNQHdq4IX61G_EB_oYD4o82g0kcMMoCfc4Cs/s1600/IMG_5498.JPG" width="292" /></a>Overall, I more-or-less followed the pattern as written. I was not meticulous about my decreases; I eyeballed how far they were apart and then counted my stitches periodically to determine what progress I was making. I also did not maintain a perfectly straight decrease line, moving the decreases over from time to time. The sides in the magazine picture looked squared off, and I wanted to avoid that.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In addition to making somewhat purposefully imprecise decreases, I made everything longer, both for the sake of my long torso and to make the pattern into more of a dress and less of a long tunic or cover up. To accommodate the lacework, I wear a black camisole underneath.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>The yarn is by no means too heavy, but it draped less flatteringly than I liked at the ribbing by my waist, so I wove in a thin ribbon to cinch the waist.</div>
<div><br /></div><div>This pattern bears some resemblance to Libby Baker's <a href="https://knitty.com/ISSUEsummer04/PATThush.html">Hush-hush</a> slip on <a href="https://knitty.com/">knitty</a>, emphasized more by my color choice. Therefore, if it is more challenging to secure a copy of the Vogue magazine, Hush-hush could be a great alternative, or even preference.<br />
<br />
So there you have it! Proof that I have been knitting all of this time, despite my neglect of the website. ;) Graduation is coming up quickly for me, so it will likely be quiet again for a little while, but stay tuned for some posts (and patterns?!) this summer!</div>

It has been a quiet few months for The Fuzzy Square as I finish my honors thesis and prepare for... life -- ! But the needles are still clicking on several knitting adventures.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So here's a glimpse of what's in my progress pile: Purl Soho's <a href="https://www.purlsoho.com/create/2011/11/23/whits-knits-hudsons-bay-inspired-crib-blanket/" target="_blank">Hudson Bay's Inspired Crib Blanket</a>. (Come on, a Purl Bee project is essential at <i>least </i>once a year..)</div>

This garter stitch blanket is perfect for brain cruise control. The only adjustment I made was to knit thinner colored stripes. I'll be knitting the cream section for awhile... but you're sure to see the finished piece here in the future.</div>
