Pattern: Lucky Stripes Top

Sweater tanks are IN, and I know this Lucky Stripes Top is going to get a lot of wear this spring and fall, especially. I wanted this tank top to be comfy, flatteringly form fitting, and versatile. 🎉 Pair it with jeans or slacks, layer with a cardigan, slip on a pleather skirt... you name it.

I've shared below exactly how I made this top. The pattern is knit in the round from the bottom up. You can always customize the colors and length to your taste! Remember that extra yardage may be needed if the size is adjusted.

The final dimensions of the top are: 35 cm / 14 inches in width (70 cm / 28 inches circumference) and 25 cm / 10 inches from the armpit to bottom edge.

The gauge for 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches) in stockinette stitch: 16 stitches (4 per inch) and 28 rows

For the main green color, I used 300 yards of Herrschners Homesyle yarn (75% acrylic, 25% wool), which is Aran (8 wpi) weight. I used 100 yards of the black.

Abbreviations:

k = knit

p = purl

sl = slip purlwise

ssk = slip, slip, knit; this is a decrease and means that you slip 1 st, slip the next, then put the left needle back into the slipped sts and knit them together

k2tog= knit 2 together; this is also a decrease

st = stitch

sts = stitches

RS = right side

WS = wrong side

Straps

The straps are worked as an I-cord across each of the 7 stitches on each cable needle or stitch holder, using US 7 needles. Check out Purl Soho's tutorial on how to knit an I-cord as needed: https://www.purlsoho.com/create/i-cord

After working two rows of I-cord, switch to black. Work two rows of I-cord in black. Switch to green and work remaining rows of I-cord. I recommend measuring a favorite tank top you have to determine the length of straps you want, or try it on and measure. When you complete a strap, cast off all stitches. Sew the end to the corresponding back point.

Weave in all ends.
