I saw Debbie Bliss's new book Peter Rabbit Baby Knits promoted on Instagram while I was looking for baby knit inspiration and immediately fell in love with the Peter Rabbit Patchwork Sweater shown on the cover. I picked up my copy at The Yarnery.
I've loved seeing this pattern come to life and can't wait for our little one to wear it when he arrives. I made this in the 3-6 month size, intending for this to be something he could wear closer to spring and Easter, but I have a feeling he may outgrow it before then. So it goes with baby sizes — it'll fit when it fits for however long it fits!
The mix of various stitches and colorwork were fun. There were a few places I found the pattern a little confusing, but it turned out undeniably adorable.
A few notes:
This row counter was my best friend.
I found it really helpful to use a post-it note to track where I was in the various colorwork charts, lining it up right below the lines I'd work on next, and folding or cutting the post-it to size if it started covering up other charts I needed to see.
I also found it helpful to underline where charts were referenced in the pattern to make it easier to read.
Chart Five on page 25 is *not* used in this pattern. It is used in the next pattern in the book, the Patchwork Blanket, which uses the same charts for Peter and carrots.
The sweater back and front match; there isn't a separate stitch pattern or chart. The key difference is that the front is a little shorter to shape the neckline and includes buttonholes.
There are four buttons + buttonholes on the right shoulder (perspective: looking at the front of the sweater). This is explained in the pattern, but I found it initially confusing because none of the images show the buttoned shoulder due to how the sweater lays.
